Congratulations to 8th Grader Emmie D. whose BOOKMARK not only won 1st place at Shahala Library but also won First Place for the Fort Vancouver Regional Library District!  Her design will be printed and distributed throughout our local public libraries as their official 2013 bookmark!

2 New contests from May 1st to May 17th, 2013:

2 CONTESTS for GRAPHIC NOVEL MONTH

in the Shahala Library 

·        Graphic Novel Review: For those kids who like to read graphic novels, this contest is to write a review about a graphic novel you’ve read.

o       Review must include book author and title, plus student’s full name and grade.

o       Must review both the writing and the illustrations and how both of these work together to help you understand better.

o       Review needs to be TYPED and emailed to the Shahala Library by May 17th at this address: paul.warner@evergreenps.org

 

·        Graphic Novel Creation: For those students who consider themselves comic artists, this contests is to begin creating your own graphic novel.

o       Must be at least 2 pages long.  Doesn’t have to be completed yet (you can have a “to be continued” where you leave off).

o       Needs to include a Title, plus student’s full name and grade.

o       Must include both words and illustrations in comic book style.

o       Content must be school appropriate.

o       Hand in to Teacher-Librarian Warner (or place in his box in the office) by May 17th.

 
WINNERS will choose from school supplies, books, & posters, and their work will be shared on the school library website.

We received over 70 entries and they were all awesome, but we had to narrow it down to the top three.  Here they are:

Our first Contest of the 2012-13 school year took place on Sept 19th for International Talk Like a Pirate Day! Winning students received candy for deciphering prate codes about literature and checking out pirate books.
