Every Teaching Moment is a Potential Moment of Magic My teaching philosophy: I try to create a positive environment and to expose students to a wide variety of activities emphasizing the values of teamwork, honesty, respect and fair play. Students know that I am happy to see them. I quickly get to know each student by name. I develop strong relationships so they know that I care about them. I make a point of conversing with students offering a compliment, inquiring about their fitness/sports plans, asking questions about their interests, encouraging them to join our many before/after school activities. When a student misses a P.E. class – I let him/her know I missed them. Through cooperative activities, I introduce students to each other and foster an environment where friendships are developed. Students will be more likely to feel safe, participate in activities and have fun if they have a lot of friends in the class. I say goodbye to students as they leave P.E. class and thank them for coming. I ask myself what I can do to make our P.E. lessons more engaging and meaningful. I do my due diligence by attending conferences and workshops, researching information, providing educational materials. I try and try, and let students know how hard I try. Just as we respect students who really try, even if they do not succeed in everything they do, so they will respect us, even if we are not as good as we want to be. I encourage students to participate in outdoor activities and family fitness events that will create long-lasting lifetime memories I try to do MORE than students expect-every day is filled with moments of magic! ~Yours in health and fitness, Mrs. Atha
