Welcome to the Legacy High School Social Studies Department!
Social Studies credit can be earned in a multitude of ways at Legacy, going way beyond the traditional courses in World or U.S. history students would take at a traditional high school.
We offer fun, creative courses that change with regularity. Each teacher may have specific courses they teach, and as we incorporate student interests into our courses, no two classes are the same.
Examples include: American Politics, Multi-Genre, the World is Flat, Reel World, Vietnam, Women's History, and The African-American Experience.
We also have Independent Learning Contracts in Washington State, World, and U.S. history available for students to do to earn additional credit, or as part of our Independent Studies program. A CWI contract will be available soon.
Questions you may have:
How many credits of history do I need to earn in order to earn my diploma?
Students are required to earn 3.0 history credits:
1.0 credit of World History.
1.0 credit or U.S History.
1.0 credit of CWI credit.
Students who did not pass Washington State History in their 8th grade year will also need to complete a Washington State History ILC contract (which will be for .5 elective credit) before they can graduate.
I am trying to earn a Washington State Diploma. Do my history requirements change?
The answer is yes, they do.
For a 19.0 credit Washington State Diploma, students need to complete 2.0 history credits:
1.0 credit or U.S History.
1.0 credit of either World History, CWI, or a combination of the two.
The Washington State History requirement explained above still applies for a Washington State Diploma.
