As writers, students reinforce the writing process and traits of effective writing as they produce essays, poetry, creative writing narratives, projects, and other genres of their choosing. Both oral and written communication skills are honed through writers’ workshops and public speaking (presentation skills) units. As problem solvers, students learn to apply strategies to rich math activities. These problems encompass a variety of difficulty levels in Numbers, Operations, Algebra, Geometry/Measurement, Data/Statistics/Probability. The computer lab will be used extensively to produce written work. Homework is generally limited to projects which students primarily work on in class, but need more time to finish by deadline.
