ATTENDANCE
Daily Attendance: Attendance is taken by the teacher during
the first 10 minutes of class.
To excuse an absence, a parent/guardian must call or send a note
to the Academy Secretary with 3 days of the absence.
The school will contact the parent/guardian via the attendance auto dialer each day
the student has an unexcused absence.
9th Grade Secretary: Pam Warneka 604-3732
10th Grade Secretary: Dianna Lynch 604-3764
11th Grade Secretary: Cheryl Pederson 604-3729
12th Grade Secretary: Louise Neal 604-3758
Special Education Secretary: Laura Wilson 604-3749
Excused Absences: Justified absences include: Illness (a doctor's note is required after 5 missed days), Doctor/Dentist appointments, Emergencies, School-related (field trips, musicals, athletics, suspension, etc.) and Prearranged (parent requests).
If the absence is for a justified absence, the student will be allowed to make-up work and, if possible, make-up missed class time. It is the students's responsibility to ask each teacher for make-up work.
Unjustified absences and/or may result in the student not being allowed to make-up missed work. Teachers' classroom policy will determine whether a student will be allowed make-up work in these cases.
Make-up Work: It is the responsibility of the student to arrange for the collection of homework assignments after three days of absence. Students may request homework from teachers by using email, School-wires or telephone. Homework assignments may be picked up in the main office 24 hours after the request has been made to the student's teachers.
Pre-arranged Absences: Pre-arranged absences include vacations or any pre-planned extended absences. The student's responsibility is to bring a note from a parent/guardian to the student's Academy Office stating the date, reason and length of the absence. A Pre-Arranged Absence Form is then taken by the student to each teacher for the teacher's signature. The student returns the completed and signed form to their Academy Office. Failure to provide the Academy Office with a completed and signed Pre-Arranged Absence Form may result in unexcused absences.
School-Related Absences: In certain cases, lists of student names will be given to teachers to indicate students will be absent for school-related activities. The student is responsible for notifying teachers of the classes to be missed prior to the absence. Upon returning to school, it is the student's responsibility to ask for the make-up work and complete it in a timely manner.
