Thunder Kick-Off Days are August 18th and 19th, please see your newsletter for details. This is very important to a smooth start of the school year. Be sure to attend. Freshman Orientaion is Monday, August 30th and Tuesday August 31st from MVHS has nominated 5 students for the prestigious, Washington Scholars program. This program recognizes the academic achievement, leadership ability, and community service of 147 high school seniors, three from each legislative district, and 49 alternate recipients.
MVHS, based on our high academic performance, has been invited to send a team of students to China to be part of the World Expo Symposium. This opportunity will allow MVHS students to represent our country as they explore the symposium theme of "The Future of Cities and the Responsibility of the Youth."
MVHS, for four straight years, has been ranked by NEWSWEEK as one of America's best high schools. This rating places MVHS in the top 5% of high schools in America.
MVHS added to our National Merit recognition by having 8 Commended students. Being a Commended student signifies an elite status of being in the top 3.3% of 1.5 million entrants. (9/29/09)
MVHS students have a tradition of excellence reflected by recognition by the National Merit Scholarship Program. This year MVHS has seven (7) semifinalists! (the best in Clark County) Congratulations to Ellerie Chen, Riley Crabtree, Rona Ding, Colin Milne, Nicholas Passannante, Bloor Redding and Luke Swenson. As semifinalists these students are the highest-scoring (PSAT) entrants and represent the top 1% of students in Washington.
MVHS had four students recognized in the Washington scholars program last year.
